Chapter I: Return of the Revenant
The Town of Revenant is holding it’s Quadricentennial Founding Festival, a fete of unparalleled splendor, with dignitaries from outlying Bergs, land owners, and traders from all over the Thaemor region. The city swells to ten times it’s normal size, including three travelers; Keys (A Glaive played by Tyler), Salem (Myle’s Nano) and Ridley (A Jack helmed by Mike), The adventurers have met before, in battles, in the wilds, and upon crossed paths.
The three meet several of the town’s residents. Keys interacts with the city’s High Priest of Aeon Jarerek, whom inquires about his Numenera invitation; Ridley is set upon by a noble woman in his debt, the Countess Zion, and is introduced to Mayor Gorlon, the Lady Håkonas, and Count Barran, of the Jyrek Southfields. Salem nearly got killed within a minute of meeting a local ruffian named Borzott (Thank you random name generator).
As the festival kick’s off one of the foothills of the Black Riage mountains cracks open, and amidst a massive earthquake nearly destroys Revenant, a dust cloud begins to clear. The festival goers panic as a massive floating structure, a mile wide in the shape of a large flying wing, emerges from the earth. The hovering structure sends out an ear shattering screech, a blue pulse wave of energy, and then begins to slowly descend upon the city, with giant spindly legs destroying the grazing lands in between. The Aeon Priests confirm it is a Numenera of legend, and are fearful that it means to destroy the city.
The adventurers are sent off to scout the machine, battling through a forest of angered and beasts made ravenous by the strange happenings, they make their way to the “Behemoth” and it’s deafening maw. They ascend by allowing the vessel’s legs to pick them up in a tree, and are deposited into a river of displaced soil and flora, snaking like an avalanche river towards the back of the structure. Another wild creature attacks them, a savage Ithsyn that hunts them down, and they manage to dispatch it with prejudice, Key’s using a shoulder mounted cypher to blast the creature’s leg off.
Will they discover more secrets lying within this great structure of devastation in time to save the town of Revenant? What other secrets and mysterious beings lie in store for them in the structure above? Find out next time on Numenera Adventures!
A big thank you once again to Monte Cook for coming on the show last week, take a listen here.
And another thanks to Paul Peterson, who finally convinced me to run a Numenera campaign on this episode.
