In this week’s episode, Mike and Drew take a winnebago ride to the town of Nilbog to discuss Troll 2! A cult hit heralded as the “best worst” movie.
- Talk Nerdy to Me: Drew spreads the words to the masses that a bunch of Star Trek is now available on Netflix Instant Streaming. Mike gets lovey-dovey over the visual design of El Shaddai on the Xbox 360 and nerd rages over Majora’s Mask freezing issues.
- This week’s challenge: (courtesy of Joseph) Mike and Drew watch the movie Troll 2 and discuss the unintentional humor, nonsensical storyline, and continuity errors of one of the worst horror movies, yet best ironic comedies, ever made.

I’m only gonna say this once. here goes….ahem…Star Wars FTW.
Though I’ve yet to see Troll 2, it does seem to have a kindred spirit in “Ernest Scared Stupid!” Far from the worst film of all time (and, hey, I like Ernest), there does seem to be a few things that carry through the films, which make me wonder if there’s something about troll or goblin lore that’s understood and I was just unaware. For example, the trolls in ESS do turn children in to petrified wood, and they can also only be stopped by “the power of good,” in this case, “a mother’s love,” which hilariously seems to translate into hurling milk cartons at trolls since a mother’s milk is a symbol of her love (yes, this really happens).
Clearly, it’s aimed at a completely different audience, but Ernest has a cult following too, with this movie generally regarded as one of the better ones.
As for STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, I’m going to through my hat into this one with “The Game,” episode 6 from season 5. It’s more of a Wesley Crusher focused episode, but I’m a Wil Wheaton fan. It serves as a fun stand-alone episode that doesn’t require a huge amount of knowledge about the cast or ongoing story. Also, it introduces us to a very young Ashley Judd.
Another episode that’s a lot of fun is “Elementary, My Dear Data,” (Season 2, episode 3) which may be more comfortable to watch if you’ve been try to catch up on Doctor Who. It features Data using the holodeck to recreate the a Holmes-like story, in which he pits wits with the legendary Moriarty.
Lastly, I’d also suggest “The Best of Both Worlds” Parts 1 and 2. It’s the Season Three finale and Season 4 premiere, that feature one of their most notable encounters with the Borg. Hope you enjoy!.
